Default Can we vote?

This is for the expats who have arrived in Aus

As we dont have the vote in Aus (well I dont yet)..what are your views on the election in the UK

importantly are we able to vote

and morally should we vote?

I have no intention of ever moving back, so should I be able to vote?

having said that.. I wouldnt like a bunch of daily mail reading reactionary idiots gaining power again... ( I still have family there).

not sure..any ideas?

It's a funny one really, I dont like the idea of the government being voted in by people who no longer live in the country, BUT having said that I think there should be some rights.....

If you are a British Citizen you are entitled to vote abroad by post or proxy so long as you have registered to vote in the past 15 years.

Yes. But it's too late now to register as a new overseas voter in time for May 5th.

As for the 'moral' angle, not every British citizen has permanent residence or citizenship rights in the country of residence outside the UK. There is an argument that 15 years is too long however, my own view is that it should be somewhere around 7 years.
