Question Can only buy a brand new house?

Hi Have tried to do a little research on this forum but can't seem to find anything about this ......

Is it true that on a Temp visa (state sponsorship - SA) that if we want to buy a house it has to be a brand new house?

Thanks Christine.

You have to apply for permission from the FIRB to purchase a house. It is my understanding - and I'm just a migrant like yourself - that they usually give permission for your main house to be 'second hand' thereafter if you want to invest in a rental property it has to be new build.

We are hopefully applying for a 475 to SA when our sponsorship is approved, so I have done some research and this is my conclusion!

Thanks - where did you do your research? Maybe I could have a go at that!!!

That is good news! I thought you could only buy brand new houses and that obviously is very limiting.

There are many people on BE and other forums who were on the old 495, (which is the same as the new 475). They have obtained approval to purchase a second hand house as a home. So try not to worry.

If you want to contact people in SA on the 495 who have done this, join this forum;

It is a great resource for anyone heading to SA and Adelaide.
