Default Can I take tools as luggage?

Has anyone taken their tools as luggage on a flight to oz.

Would like to know if this is possible?

Yes.

In fact, on one occasion pre 9/11, the majority of my hand luggage was hand tools.

Yes, you can as a locked box in the hold. The problem is the weight allowance and whether it eats up your luggage allowance.

Look at air freight.

Mu hubby, the little buggar, put a bag of tools in my suitcase, I told him not to. Weigh in and guess what, mine was well over, he opened it up and i nearly died. He had to take them out. I could have killed him.
The tools in there was not a problem , it was the weight.
And guess what, that suitcase never got here anyway

It could be anywhere in the world, dont know. Its been travelling now for 19 months. It would have served him right if his tools had still been in there.
We came with 5 suitcases and 5 t chest, but my suitcase never arrived,
Cathay Pacific offered me 500 dollars, cheeky buggers.
I got 3,000 off post office ins. UK

Well done. It's probably in one of those 'lost luggage' sales they have everywhere.
But I'd have settled with the 3K too.

Wouldn't be surprised if the luggage was opened for inspection by security officials, after going through the security x-ray machines as well.

Yes, almost certainly. I'd be worried about them being nicked actually.

Yep I agree. My partner used to work for the BAA call centre at Gatwick and he was quite shocked at the number of calls he received from passengers who had had their luggage broken into and items stolen.
