Can I take plastic food containers?
I found the following lines on AQIS website:
Some second hand boxes that were intended for other uses may pose a risk to quarantine.
Do not use any packing boxes that have already been in contact with an organic substance such as cartons or inserts used previously with fruit, meat, eggs, flowers or pot plants, or fertiliser bags.
Do not use straw, sawdust, wood shavings or any other plant material as packing or filler.
My question is this:
1. I don't used cartons used previously with fruit, meat, eggs and flowers, but are plastic food containers similar those used for packed lunch allowed? I don't have any kitchen utensils to ship, but have a few lunch boxes. Are they allowed or not?
2. Is Karma Sutra allowed to be taken into Australia without being confiscated by Customs?

Thanks Pollyanna.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought Customs disallowed pornographic materials? Is Karma Sutra exempted?

You will be fine. Just apply common sense.
I love some of the the questions on here... always worth a large smile...

Porn is absolutely everywhere in Australia. There is no way Customs can say it was all made here. Saying that, though, they do restrict what pornography is allowed and the kama sutra would definitely fall into the allowed category.

I've imported stuff a couple of times into Australia. Basically use common sense - I have had one or two items that were destroyed as not suitable to bring into the country. No fuss was made - they contacted me and said that they had to be irradiated at a cost of about $80. I said no thanks, so they destroyed them and passed the rest of the goods on to me.
One of the items was a £1 drum I bought at Chinese New Year in Soho. Another item had 'untreated wood'.
Hope that helps

Dorothy said porn is everywhere, I don't know, because I have never set foot on Australian soil.
I have some porn DVDs. To ship or not to ship? Allowed or not?

Depends what they are - if they are nasty hardcore stuff and AQIS decide to look in that box they might get confiscated. If they are similar to the karma sutra, stop worrying.

Pollyana,
I think this is a grey area. The definition of nasty is not clear as far as customs is concerned. All they are saying on the B534 Unaccompanied Effect Statement is as follow:
Material which is likely to cause offence to a reasonable adult. This may include, but is not limited to: child pornographic material, child abuse material,
material which may promote, incite or instruct in matters of crime or violence or misuse of a drug, or sexual material (including bestiality).
You see, the key word here is may include, but is not limited to. Then again, can it be argued that porn could cause offence to a reasonable adult? I don't know.

If you have any doubts and don't want to ris specific items being confiscated then email a list of the items to AQIS and get a ruling from them item by item. No-one on here can possibly tell you whether an individual pon dvd is acceptable or not to AQIS when all they know is that the items are described by you as "porn".
And please don't list the titles on here in order to get opinions !! :blink

No, will definitely not list the title here.
Maybe I will give them to whoever wants it.
