Can Expats ever really.....

truely experience life in a new country the way the locals do??

I was sitting here and thinking about when I first moved to London. Having been an Aussie all my life I looked at things in a certain way, I guess you could say compared things to Australia. I dont think I ever judged them as better/worse than Australia, just different (oh apart from the driving in London!! :D )

I can honestly say that even after living in London for 4 years there was an aweful lot of things I still didnt "get". Like people talking about things when they were kids eg TV Programs, Music...things that made them who they are. Its such a different life to what I had...Its the small little things that always made me feel a little like an outsider looking in....

Does that ever really change no matter how long you are in a "new" country?? Perhaps it might be different for peoples kids that have been bought over and grow up "Australian". But will an expat always BE an expat? Is that a bad or a good thing?

Just random thoughts from a "bored-cant-wait-to-go-away-this-weekend" person at work.....
