We stayed in the New Otani on Clarke Quay. It was quite cheap (£38 prpn) and on arrival they offered an upgrade to a suite for an extra £9 per night. This room has a jacuzzi, seperate lounge, Quay view....

It was nice and was well located for shops and bars.

£4 for a Tiger Beer though. Ridiculous when they are made there and they are only about £1.20 in my local ASDA!

We stayed in the Shangri La Hotel on the Santosa Island as well and must say that with kids its perfect, they have got a lovely kids pool with slides and ours stayed in it all day, it was a job to drag them off and go around the Island, i would love to go back, we had 5 nights in Singapore and it wasn't enough.

New Otani's changed hand - it's now Novotal Clarke Quay. Reasonably priced and great location.

Cheers,

Thanks all for your posts. I think we will stay at the Shangri La on Sentosa because of the children's facilities. Did you take your kids out in the evening or use the childcare at the hotel ? I've never done that and when we stayed at the Burswood in Perth when Flynn was 5 months, I kept saying we'd get a babysitter and go to the casino, but every night I couldn't do it. Maybe I will now he's a bit older. I looked at the prices for the hotel and it's about £70 per night. I think we'll probably stay for 3 nights, mind you, with all the things you are telling me about, we'll need to stay longer !

Thanks again.

Jo

We didn't go out at night, just ate in the hotel and enjoyed it. So I can not comment on the child care. Make sure you eat at the out side BBQ, it is fantastic. More expensive than the buffett, but worth it for a treat. The inside buffett will suit your little one better though.

Have a safe trip.

Glad you didn't opt for the Carlton. We spent Christmas there a couple of years ago and got the most horrific food poisoning. Our two year old was very sick. We had to cancel onward flights.

We stayed in Singapore for 5 days a few years ago. We stayed in a pretty cheap hotel in the red-light district (Joo-Chiat), and it was pretty good (and safe... even at night) and just a short walk to the tube. Some great bargains on crystals and things (if you`re into that stuff) in Joo-Chiat.

things to do:
- Botanical gardens (amazing... wait till you hear the crickets and see the HUGE fish in the lake).
- Sentosa. Our favourite bit. Beautiful (man-made) beaches. Underwater World. The Merlion. Train ride. Take the glass-bottomed cable-car if you like thrills.
- There`s a cool Buddhist temple on top of a hill somewhere. Very nice.
- Jurong Bird Park.
- Reptile Park (right next door to the Jurong Bird Park). We felt very sorry for the turtles though (trying their best to escape their pen).
- The shopping along Orchard road etc. Can`t remember the two techie towers names, but everything computer/camera/electrical is there. HUGE and may blow you away/turn you off. If you don`t like crowds don`t go.
- Night Safari. Couldn`t see much (duh), but the Flying Fox Bat enclosure is amazing as you walk through it and can touch the HUGE bats.

I've stayed at The Marina Mandarin a couple of times as well.

There's a pub in there called, "The Cricketer", which is supposed to, "Re-create all the atmosphere of a typical British pub". "With music from our live band!".

In we went for a few beers.

The, "Live band" consisted of an old bloke plinkety-plonking an enormous grand piano, and a young girl scraping away at a violin!

Just like they have in every Local in Britain.

There were little, "Music Request" slips of paper on all the tables, & after a few beers, I wrote, "Firestarter" on one of them, and handed it to the rapidly ageing piano player.

Unfortunately, they didn't know that one!
