I've been looking everywhere but only found a couple. Looking for the best interest rate on a long term deposit. so far 4.5% seems to be the highest.

Have a look at some. Personally I invest using Raboplus (www.raboplus.com.au) since its a no gimmick, no introductory promo rate fixed interested rate. I can move my money without penalty online, set up term deposits online and basically its about as easy as it gets. Rabobank incidentally is considered to be the worlds safest private bank.

But doesn't the government guarantee my money ? Yup - but only until 2011 and if you have say a term deposit that matures after that time its not covered.

I'm sure I could squeeze an extra percent by shuffling money around between promo rates and so on, but I really cant be arsed with that.
