Can anyone identify these?

Can anyone identify these?
I've a couple of tumbler composters at the bottom of the garden, each with a big bucket underneath to catch the grunge that leaks out.
Each bucket is full of these disgusting grubby things worming their way around in the liquid. They are around 2cm long in the body, their tails are thin whiplike things usually about 3cm long (the ones in the photos seem to have lost most of their tails) and, in the bucket there are clumps of them with their tails all entangled.
I've never seen anything like them - any answers?

They are a species of Diptera, some sort of fly larvae, living in the moist substance. The tube is to breath air. They aren't a problem or infestation. Just clean up and they will disappear.
If they don't, use them as fishing bait!

I thought they were too large for fly larvae - at least, the sort of flies we get around here - but I see there are tens of thousands of types. I've never seen the "tails" before! They certainly move like fly maggots.
