Hi all, found this one in the garage, dead, thank god!

Anyone know what it is, dont know what killed it  Don't say a bigger one  by the way the coin in the foreground is a british 5p coin for comparison.

It's the eyes that freak me out!

Chris :D

OK. We call them "huntsman".

Hi Chris

I think it may be a Huntsman spider?? Huntsmans are generally harmless (but see 2nd website below) and I think they are supposed to eat cockroaches and mosquitos. But having said that I have lived in the UK for so long now (originally from Brisbane) I haven't seen a spider that big for a while!!

This website says they have eight eyes!!

Hope this helps but it is always worthwhile having it checked out further with a local Perth expert.

How on earth do you cope when you see one of those hanging around? I would scream and run away like a fool.

Contrary to misconceptive assumption...

Aussies are not to fond of spiders snakes etc either

Yeah exactly, I thought it was a reasonable sized specimen til I realised that was 5p.

Speaking of the local wildlife, accidentally ran over my first snake yesterday - feeling quite guilty. Think it was a nasty-ish one though as it was black.....think they're normally of the venomous variety.

It's a harmless Huntsman, there are a lot in WA of various sizes. Yours was a fairly small one. Watch the movie Charlottes Web, might make you think differently about spiders.
