What class of family-sponsored visa?

For a visitor our fastest was 'on the spot' and for skilled 12 weeks, from the date of application.

Is your classification on MODL? If so, you can expect the visa processing to be finalised sooner than if it is not.

Where does your sponsor live? If they live in a "designated area" then you would still get priority processing even though your occupation is not on the MODL. Subclass 139 visas (Skilled Designated Area Sponsored) get priority processing while Subclass 138 visas (Skilled Australia Sponsored) do not get prioritized. This can be the difference between a 6 month wait for a CO and a 2-3 month wait for a CO.

I don't think so Brian,
I have been waiting nearly 3 and a bit months and there is no CO on the horizon. If fact the woman on the phone from the DIMIA told me that I was no priority (even though I know I am) even though I am a 139.

I shall have to wait the full 4 months that it states on the letter for a CO, I have also been told they are changing the letters because they have more 139 visa applications recently and they are trying to concentrate on the MODL ones.

So don't hold your breath guys

Designated areas are listed in either Booklet 6 or in the DIMIA web pages that talk about skilled sponsored migration visas. It's based on postal code.

So you must be 138 then? My sister also lives in Perth, just waited 7.5 months for a CO, others lately have waited a little less than that, but the wait seems to be gradually lengthening. Those who applied in April 2005 seemed to get their visas within 6 months, those who applied in June 2005 were lucky if they got a CO within that same time period.

I finally got a chance to look it up in Booklet 6 (page 23) so here's the list of postal codes which are NOT considered designated areas in Western Australia:

• 6042-6044, 6051, 6126, 6200-6799 (anywhere except Perth metropolitan area)

So, unless your sponsor lives outside one of the above postal codes you would be applying for a subclass 138, which as happymum advises is not prioritized.

I'm afraid so, they are not in the designated area. I even tried to confuse you by mis-typing my answer - the "NOT" should NOT have been in there! :rolleyes:
