Default Cambridge (and surrounds) meet

As there seem to be a few members from the Cambridge/East Anglia area floating about on this forum, does anyone fancy a bit of an expats meet up somewhere in the Cambridge vicinity?

Otherwise it will just be me and Anya4oz which, although amusing and doubtless slightly messy, isn't really the idea!

Happy to organise it if there's any interest...

Hi Katherine,

I'll try to get something sorted out, although I have no idea what, so suggestions welcome (that includes you, Anya - was your idea after all!!!!)

What do you think about:

- drinks & a meal out somewhere (maybe meet in the pub first)?
- evening or lunchtime (I'd prefer evening myself, but if we have assorted kiddies who would like to join in, could be anytime you like. Mine's too old & lives in the US, so no chance )?
- if poss, a place that has parking (a big issue for us Cambridge types!)?
- offers veggie food (Mr A is veggie)?
- caters for unruly groups (of expats )?
- ethnic food?
- price not an issue for us but we are happy to do a cheapie if others would prefer?
- ideally a place without very loud boomy music so we can chat (god, makes me sound really old! Actually I like loud music, but not for socialising to!)

There ought to be plenty of choices in Cambridge/Bury, but I guess we would have to book in advance.

Have eaten at the following lately:

- Jade Garden(?) chinese in Sawston just S of Cambridge
- Caxton Gibbet chinese
- EFEs turkish on King St
- various Indian
- Arundel House hotel (great food but the ambience might not be quite right for a big (hopefully) gathering)

Bundy, any other ideas?

(Damn, I should be working at the mo, but this is less stressful than the hassly work thing I'm trying to fix )

Anya.

Good suggestions Anya...I'm happy to go anywhere other than Indian (can't stand curry). Jade Garden always gets good reviews, although I've not been. EFEs - round the corner from my house therefore within easy stumbling distance!!!

Don't have kiddies, so can do evening, but happy with lunch too. More suggestions needed..where are the other Anglian Expats???!!

Hi bundy

We live in Litlington near Royston and would love to meet up. We have just been to a meet on Sunday with some hertfordshire lot. very good day and very informative. we all had sunday lunch in a pub that did a variety. we took our kids but others didn't and as it was a nice day the kids played outside. Isn't there a large pub in Cambridge like this as the kids might like to meet aswell. Anyway we will look out for any posts and look forward to meeting everyone.

By the way we are John Sally Paul 18 jo 16 and Hayley 11

Sounds good to me Sally. I'd be happy with a sunday lunch at a pub. And there are one or two pubs in and around Cambridge! Shall do some more thinking...

Sounds good. What about the Red Lion at Granchester (it has car parking!). However, I've no idea about what the food is like, as it's ages since I've been there. I suspect it's quite a busy place at the weekends so maybe we need somewhere further out. There's also that one on the village green at Barrington, I think not sure what the pub's called though.

Don't think we'll mind, as long as there are veggie things for Mr A. to gnaw on - but most places do those, these days.

Who else has got children to bring? Have to count me out on that one as he's all grown up so it may be up to Bundy to get into hasty production to get our 'young persons quota' up Heh heh, trust me to lower the tone

Anya.

stranger still i`m in fordham which is walking distance from burwell!
i guess we could do with a chat to people.we are in early stages but visa is no problem.
i woke up and decided to go but my wife is slightly less eager.being a mother she tends to be a bit more sensible and less impulsive!
really for us it`s coming down to school comparison`s and stuff like that.
however, todays nice weather and some time in the garden this evening do my chances no harm at all!
the red thingy in granchester is nice with plenty of parking.
we would love to come and chat for an hour as thats all our baby sitting will stretch to.....
so maybe no meal for us but we come for a bit.
thanks

Hi
We would be interested in meeting up and having a chat.

I'm just about to send off my docs to the TRA so we're in the very early stages.

We live in Peterborough so it's not to far away.

Regards

Brill, many congrats on the move!

We're flying out 30 April for our validation visit for about 3.5 weeks so it would need to be before or after then.

Anya (only 5 weeks till I'm in Melbourne! Yippeeee!)

Hi
We're in v early stages of application (getting references from past employers), but live on Norfolk/Suffolk border - near Diss. We have three sons (10,8 and 4)

It's quite a way from Grantchester for a Sunday lunch, but let us know if there's any other meets planned a bit closer (BSE fine).
Or are there any other E Anglians out there close to us!?
