Default Calling the State Emergency Service in Queensland

Take note of the number - you never know when you might need it!

"Queenslanders needing help during a storm or flood have a new number to call for the SES – 132 500.

The change means Queensland is part of the National 132 500 State Emergency Service (SES) telephone number network fulfilling a key election promise, Premier Peter Beattie and Emergency Services Minister Pat Purcell announced today.

“This single telephone number will replace more than 1,200 existing phone numbers used by members of the public to contact their local SES,” Mr Beattie said.

(and I should add that a lot of the work on getting this launched today was done by two fellow expats, one if them a BE poster - rather them than me, its been a little hectic at times!)

They are marvellous, we called them onetime when there was a lot of flooding around , water was seeping into our garage which is at the bottom of the driveway, they delivered sandbags for us free of charge and just asked us to give them a ring when we had finished with them. They were going to come and pick them up too, but we took them back ourselves.

All volunteers too who go out in all sorts of weather to assist the community.
