Calling Adelaide & emigrants from the "City of Adelaide"
Just thought Id share this letter with you all from todays paper.....if anyone knows anybody in Adelaide that can give a boat a new home??????
After all the news about the sad demise of the Cutty Sark...."few people seem to know of another (Tea) Clipper, the "City of Adelaide" which pre dates the Cutty Sark by 5 years. Built in the same design and launched in 1864, she was used extensively in the 19th Century emigration trade to Australia."
This earliest surviving Clipper has been decaying on a slipway in Ayrshire for the last 16 years...the owners (Sunderland Maritime Heritage Group) have failed to find funding to restore the vessel and so next week plans will be drawn up to dismantle the 143 year old ship.
So if anybody needs a new boat then look no further....shame its going to cost 8 to 10 Million to restore it!! Heavens knows how much money is spent on the Iraq war every month shame that the UK cannot save it maybe Australia can?????????!.....
