calamvale, stretton --Brisbane

Hiya,
We are thinking about this area of Brisbane to live, can anyone tell me what the area is like?
Can you compare it to Regents Park/ Heritage Park as this was our original choice??
Do they have normal pubs in suburbs like over here, every new housing estate seems to have its own 'local' now.
ANY input would be great
cheers

The mindset is less on the local pub and more so on either entertaining at home or heading to and from a venue by taxi/train. I'm thinking Breakfast Creek and the Story Bridge Hotel being 40 minutes drive away or going to 'hot pockets' like Paddington, West End or The Valley. That said there are places in many suburbs (some tavern like) as well as some Irish and British theme pubs (where you can drink by the pint)

To be honest I was more likely to grab a six pack of becks/stella/steinlager from the bottle shop (off licence) and drag them into a BYO restuarant (bringing home any bottles left over)

(Sorry don't know much about the suburbs described)

Kismet

We too are looking at the Calamvale area, we know a family moving there next month, we are keeping in touch so any good info the area we will pass on to you.

What is it in particular you are looking for in a potential home, must be more than the pub!

I hear the local school is good in Calamvale www.calamvalecomcoll.qld.edu.au

Also the transport is quite good from there straight into the City.

we normally live in BArdon which is 5km from Brisbane town centre at the base of mt. Cootha, which is an amazing area. When you go, visit the lookout at the top of mount cootha at night, you can see the whole of brisbane lit up, it's amazing :D .

Socialising in oz is different from in the uk, there is more emphasis on socialising at home or eating out. Although the Caxton Hotel on Caxton Street can get lively on a weekend.

Not sure about the two area's you mentioned, are they new?
