Hi guys,

after much umming and aarring we have decided to go where our hearts are and settle in Cairns. ( If and when we ever get our visas granted ).

Is there anyone out there who has lived in Cairns or surrounding area, who could advise us on the nicest schools etc. Have 5 yr old and 3 yr old, so schooling v.important to us.

Thanks, any info muchly appreciated!

:)
Hi leigh
Good luck to you.
I don't think I could live with the humidity although I have only been a couple of times in the Spring. It was very hot then.
We once stayed in the Daintree Forest and that seemed quite pleasant - cooler if anything.
I found the bars and nightlife in Cairns a bit much for me.A lot of drunkenness and backpackers. Some of the bars were a bit rough and Male only (so it seemed).

Otherwise it looks Ok just out of town.

Best wishes

Hi Grayling,

yes, I agree that Cairns central and the CBD can be a bit rachous (sp?), we're looking at going to the 'burbs, Brinsmead,Kanimbla,Bayview heights possibly. Having said that, i'm not likely to find a queenslander in those areas, as they are fairly new properties, a'la Neighbours.:D

Main thing is whether the children can adapt to the humidity, if they can't then we shall go down the coast.:)

Ohh, just had an email back from a company who want to know how far we are with the visa and could they contact my husbands referee. The job is in Cairns.

Last week I had some time on my hands and sent his c.v to about 6 companies. 3 others replied saying they would like to hear from him when we get there.

We hoped to go to Brisbane, but we will see what happens.

Hi

Just seen this post, sorry for the late response.

We are going to be in Cairns, Kanimbla in fact as my boyfriends parents live there. It is a lovely suburb and we love it there, fella grew up there and went to school there, although I can't remember the name of it now (opps)!

Good luck, I think you will love it.

Watching Jordan on IACGMOOH always reminded me of Cairns.

There's a road sign going into town from Port Douglas directing the bemused to "Yorkey's Knob" !

If only I had stopped the coach and taken a photo.:D

Hiya Natbat!

can you ask your fella if he knows what the better schools around the cairns area are please? I've been scouring the net, but no real info seems to be coming up.

Good luck to you too,

many thanks, Leigh.:)
