Paramatta Road, from about Lewisham up to Strathfield. More car dealerships than you can shake a stick at. It's a long walk though - probably best to hire a car for the day to drive around them all. I found that cheap second hand cars were something quite rare though - often high kms and low on warranty cover. I ended up spending a bit extra and got a new, albeit very cheap, car. S |

When you say cheap, what numbers are you talking and what type of car.

Cheers In Sydney, I could find little under $10k that was in good condition, likely to be reasonably reliable, or have lowish mileage. S |
Re: Buying second hand car in Sydney
Went the slightly more dodgy route myself recently, and found a car on eBay (we wanted a fun weekend car as we don't need a car to commute so picked up a Jeep Wrangler). Had a look on carsales.com.au and drive.com.au and found a few, but ended up viewing a couple on ebay and won one of them. So far couldn't be happier; make sure you do your research tho with regards to stamp duty and insurance (some companies accept UK no claims) when setting your budget tho, otherwise you might get a nasty surprise!

I would go to "Auto Alley" Church St. Parramatta. No need to hire a car. Train/bus to Parra. and walk down one side and up the other. Almost every make of car known to man can be found there.

Re: Buying second hand car in Sydney
We bought our second hand Honda CRV from Paul Patterson Motors on Parramatta Road. Still going strong after 3 1/2 years, I think we got a good deal (was very surprised to pay stamp duty buying a car though!).

Is stamp duty paid only when buying from dealers or private as well
Both. It's chargeable on the transfer of title from one owner to the next. Even if they give you the car, it's charged at the nominal value of it. :) S |

www.carsales.com.au
Biggest online car sales here in Oz. You can also try the auctions, which is where I picked up my last little runabout www.pickles.com.au Good luck |
