I live in the dank and musty Middle East Forum section of BE - I rarely leave there, it's just too scary...

So anyway, I just wondered if someone can advise and answer (even PM me) on a Brit purchasing and owning a property in Aus.

Specifically - would a mortgage be available, would there be a visa (of any nature) on purchase and has any one you know bought without a residence visa?

I'd be really grateful if you can give me any pointers... don't flame me too bad...

You need to have approval to buy a house from the FIRB http://www.firb.gov.au/content/default.asp

If you don't have a visa, then it's probably impossible to get approval and no it won't lead to a visa if you did get approval.

I think non residents are allowed to buy property but it must never have been lived in. Alternatively they can buy land and get a house built.
