Buying Property on 309 Spouse Visa - still on TR
Hi
My partner and I are wanting to buy a property in Melbourne in the next few months and I was wondering if there are any restrictions on me being a joint owner?
I am on a subclass 309 Spouse visa and will only be applying for PR in November 2006.
My partner is Australian and already owns a property that we currently rent out.
I would appreciate anyone's advise on this!!

Hi
I am also here on a temporary vise (de-facto spouse) and bought a house in April (QLD) so I would say there is nothing to stop you going ahead as long as you meet the criteria set out by the banks.

The reason I ask is I know people, on a temp visa who are buying a house. Not a brand new house, just a regular house. I didn't know they could do that.

OK, OK keep your hair on. You did say you'd heard of people buying on TR and I gave you an example! And that's New Zealand citizen living in Oz, not Oz citizen.

You CAN buy if you are temp spouse visas, though I think other temp visas are not quite so clear cut. Biggest problem on temp spouse is getting a mortgage, the actual buying has no restrictions.

Anyway, what would happen if someone went ahead and bought a house whilst on a temp visa, like the 457 without running it by the FIRB. Would it actually be possible or is there a stage in the process where they would be "discovered" so to speak?
