the good guys are good - they do discount for cash - which is always handy when you move over here and seem to paying shed loads of cash

There's a current thread on buying white goods generally - started out about housing but do a search on Good Guys and you'll find it.

Hi, like you we had to buy all new gear, here are some pointers, shop around and haggle hard, it might be embarrasing at 1st, my wife could of died the amount I was asking for but 90% of the time it paid off, go to a shop and find what your looking for then ask the best price for cash and leave, dont be pressured to stay it's your money you spend it where you want to, now go to another shop find a similar item and ask the same for cash then play off each other, (important note) when you agree on the price get delivery thrown in for free as on average it is around $40 or more. As an example we have purchased a king size bed advertised at $3200 haggled hard and got pillows, mattress protector and free delivery for $1800 managed to get $300 off our fridge and $50 off our sofa bed and $200 off at freedom furniture and they are very fickle for discounts and the best was $8000 off brand new car but didn't purchase car in the end as the pound became weaker against the dollar so got same car one year old and saved $16,000, Another tip we never bought from the good guys as they mark their items a little higher than retail then knock it down for cash so you think your getting a bargain we know this as our fridge was $1300 in Harvey Norman and $1400 in Good guys, we got all our stuff from the major stores like Harvey Norman (fridge) Sleepy's (bed) try deasy's electrical in Maroochydore also visit the homemakers center near Sunshine Plaza and Kawana Waters, it will take a few days to get the best prices and they will look stunned that you asked but hey if you don't ask you dont get, but it will work, Good Luck.

I avoid Harvey Norman, as they tend to be expensive. Our Good Guys is very good, and they normally give about 12% discount. If you are with the RACQ, they give 12% discount on production of your card, sometimes this is more than the cash discount that they offer.

As an example of TV prices:
Samsung Series 6 40 inch LCD Television LA40A650 is available between: $2,069 and $3,613 (according to the Internet), but I could get one for $2,029

And don't forget Kmart... They aren't only for the cheap TV's.

Sony KDL32S4000 32 Inch S Series Bravia LCD TV for $1,069.
Between $1,075 and $1,399 elsewhere.
