Question Buying laptop at Singapore Changi airport

Hi there,

will immigrate to Australia next week and will travel via Changi. I´ve read somewhere on BE that buying a new laptop computer in Singapore pays off but can´t find the thread unfortunately. Any advice somebody? I can´t leave the airport due to short connection times so is it still worth it to buy one at the airport? Always have the impression that buying things at an airport is double expensive?

Thank you!

Wait until you get here, then buy one from E-bay.

I got a Lenovo Thinkpad W520, top spec for $1500 delivered (same one here is just under $4k). It has international warranty too

It's not been worth buying computer/electronic stuff in Asia for years now. Wait until you get here. Most of the big electrical stores will give you a much better deal, plus the Australian warranty and plug.

If you are thinking of paying for it in pounds then forget it, the pound is very weak against the S$ at the moment. You'd get a better deal in one of the electronic shops in town anyway.

Plus there might be hassles with the warranty if goes wrong. As Moneypenny said shop around here and barter for a deal.

Definitely worth buying in Singapore, however not at the airport. There is neither the range or cost savings to be had at Changi.

If you could spare a couple hours and get into Funan Mall then you would find a much better range and lower prices than in the UK/Australia as well as getting the 7% tax back.
