i've read many posts on buying a house in oz and i think i read somewhere that you cant get a mortgage until you have pr. as i have been granted a 2 year tempory visa (spouse) does this mean i would have to rent somewhere for around 4 years before i could get a mortgage, or have i got it all wrong?

Hi there

You dont have to have a permenant residency visa to buy a house (in Queensland anyway) you can do it with a temp visa. We have just bought a house after being on the Gold Coast for 4 months and are on a 4 yr temp visa. Like the UK you gotta have a reasonable deposit and a job for the income etc. You will probably be ok providing you are not borrowing too much for your wages.
