If you want to buy books DVDs etc. I would buy them from the UK and have them posted to Australia. This is what I do as they normally work out cheaper that way than actually buying them here. Try amazon.co.uk or the bookdepository.co.uk (this one free postage anywhere in world).

If you live in Australia, order goods from the UK (paying in £'s) and have them delivered to your address, do the customs charge an import fees ?

Not unless they think its a commercial import. Personal use stuff is OK.

Have a look at Amazon, but also at www.bookdepository.co.uk - they don't charge shipping

Anything up to A$1,000 is imported without duty. Unlike the UK where pretty much anything imported seems to get duty, VAT and admin fees added on top.
