Re: Buying a Car
I had an appointment with a migrant banker at westpac two days after I arrived and they sorted out everything i needed. in fact I had a harder time convincing them I didn't need a mortgage than I did getting credit.

You can get finance immediately on arrival (according to CommBank) as a 457 but will have difficulty later on as you are seen as a flight risk. I know for Three they required me to be in the country for a specified length of time before they would allow me a bill phone.

I got a discount for not having a trade-in. I assume this is their 'standard discount'. I did buy with finance though. Expensive few months it was too!

Good to know that you got a discount. Does the end of year tax have any bearing on things.

I suspect whatever ambitions the dealer has about boosting sales for EOFY are cancelled out by the amount of cash that businesses thrown at them for tax avoidance at year end.
