Buying 4x4 UK vs AU prices
I have been looking at buying a 4x4 when I get to WA, I love off roading camping and travelling but I cant believe how expensive second hand 4x4's are in AU.
For example a Nissan Navara ST Diesel Dual Cab in the UK is around £13,000 ($30,000)
The Same spec'd 4x4 in AU is around $42,000 (£18,000) a whole £5k more than buying the same vehicle here.
However, New in the UK a Base Navara is £19,000 ($44,270) again a similar spec'd Navara in AU is $40,000 (£17,000)
The UK Vehicle price is on the road I am not 100% sure about the AU price from what I understand there is also tax to go on top of this.
However it still shows that second hand Australia is more expensive than the UK, But new Australia looks to be cheaper.
Please some one put me right if this is not the case, I would love a Navara but would begrudge paying over the odds for a 1 or 2 year old one.
Cheers for any advice/help

Used cars here hold their value way better than back in Blighty... Some new prices here are considerably less, some are way more... Used values often seem to have no logic to me... people just seem to chuck whatever value comes into their head on them, particularly the dealers... I just bought a brand new Navara ST-X 4x4 2.5 DT Auto plus a bunch of extras for $44,997 (less than many used vehicles are advertised for) on the road as against $52k RRP... Use a car broker and you won't go wrong...

FWIW I have noticed new cars are a heck of a lot cheaper than the UK, but used cars (as someone else said) do hold their value more. You can haggle (esp if you've just rocked up with lots of cash in your pocket) on the price...

Re: Buying 4x4 UK vs AU prices
Hello,
we originally planned to buy a used 4WD but after arriving in Perth, decided to go for a new vehicle instead. Prices for used vehicles seamed high, and often high milage due to distances here. As we live rural we decided a new car would be better.
If your after a new Nissan, we found Giant Nissan in Osbourne Park, Perth helpful. They seamed geared up for Expats, so are helpful with finance and other needs.

Which Nissan did you get? We were thinking of a Nissan pathfinder and was wondering how much off the list price can we expect to get, someone before mentioned 7k was a good expectation..
Cheers

Dont know when you are going, why dont you buy a 4x4 in the uk and then import it, if you meet all the criteria.
Nissan Patrol= $15000 in Aus $35000

I think they hold there value more over here because there is no number plate that says "2 year old car"

Re: Buying 4x4 UK vs AU prices
Thanks for all the advice guys, I am just going to hang on and buy new when I get there, it really seems like the best option.
I am not sure about importing, it seems to cost a fair bit to get vehicles shipped over, with all the hastleand extra expense I may aswell buy a 4x4 in AU.
