Default buy or build

What would people advice is it best to buy or build your own house.
The good side of building your own would be you get the lay out that you want.
In UK when you build you make around 30% profit due to the hard work you have to put in, would this be the same in perth area.

many thanks,

Phillip.

Building your own for profit would be more risky than UK (which has a bigger population to appeal too). My warning would be to ensure your design appeals to the biggest number of punters.

Cant say I would ever quote 30% but definitely profit to be made by getting the right design and quality/cost of build to match your market/location.

When we was over back in 2003 (god that seems long time ago now and visa runs out mar 2008 need to get out next year) looked at land prices which was high $250k and the build package was around $100k realestate man said should sell for $400k to $420k which is 15% profit. Looking at the forum looks like we have a shock when we arrive house price have gone up fair bit.
