again I think it will depend on the agent, I was allowed a stopover of 4 days in Germany then continued on to Newquay, I then returned from LHR

That's the joy (and the pain) of dealing with US - agents not knowing their own rules. It seems the hub stopover requirement is often overlooked, the four segment rule occasionally overlooked and the stopover or open jaw rule rarely overlooked, so I think you were lucky. But it's always worth a try, they can only say no!

Currently sitting in the First Class lounge at Bangkok airport, having just completed the first leg of our BNE-FCO trip. Comfortable seat, great service, very appetising food. The only negative was that every time an announcement was made the volume was so high that I had to rip my headphones off to avoid bursting my eardrums.

The Thai noise canceling headsets are pretty good, but I used my Bose ones which are better.

Will try out the bed on the BKK-FCO leg which leaves just after midnight.

Can you fly first class from Brisbane now?

@ Commonwealth: I was allowed SYD > LHR with a week in the UK, then LHR to PEK. 3 weeks in PEK then onto SYD.
I think it is a similar itinerary to the one you are discribing......

No, still no First out of BNE - we flew out of Sydney after spending Easter there with the in-laws. Brisbane just happens to be where we started from!

The first class lounge at Bangkok is a huge improvement on the Air New Zealand lounge at Sydney. Just be aware that the shower heads slide slowly down the pole they are mounted on, so you finish your shower crouching.

Hey all - another quick question
I was planning on booking flights to Uk this weekend for travel in September and have juzt realised that the hubbys UK passport runs out in December. Am i correct in thinking he needs at least 6 month validity on passport when we travel? We are going to apply for a new one which will take 6 weeks - do US Airways take all passport details does anyone remember - or is it just the passport number? Im just trying to work out if i can book regardless?
Ta in advance

They don't ask for any passport details.

some airlines might refuse to board passengers with less than 6 mos passpt validity. check with the individual airlines you will be actually flying on, not jus us airwys.

I think whether you need six month's validity depends on which countries you are travelling through rather than the whim of an airline. I don't know if this is current but there's a list here - http://www.menorcaminorca.co.uk/passports.html. As you are stopping over in Denmark, it looks like hubby will need a new passport, but I'd try and find something officially confirming this as it would be a fair bit cheaper to wait until you get to the UK to renew it if that was an option. Also, best to leave it a little while before renewing as you can get up to a maximum of 6 months tacked onto the validity of the new passport if the passport being renewed is still in date (so best to leave until less than six months validity left if you then still have the time to renew it before you leave).

None of this affects your ability to book your flights though.

Hmm - tried to book flights to Newcastle today and couldnt. The US airways lady said that NCL didnt come up on her system at all. The leg i was trying to book was 09/09/13 Copenhagan-Newcastle (flight SK543) and return 03/10/13 Newcastle-Copenhagan (flight SK544) - united.com shows award availability but US airways rep said that they musnt do ncl award flights if they were not showing up. Has anyone had a similar situation???

My advice - hang up (politely!) and call again - several times if necessary. You'll probably find someone who can help. One of life's mysteries is how people who are ostensibly using the same computer system seem to come up with different results.....
