Bunnings

Well it has started already, B&Q used to be part of our weekly shopping trip in the UK now it has become Bunnings, even the kids ask at the weekends are we going to Bunnings. Why is it that we always come out of there with a lot more than we went in for.

Some women love shoe stores. Others love jewellery shops. Me? I've been banned by my husband from going to Bunnings. :(

When our daughter was young she kept talking about going to Bunnings and kept asking when we would be going next. Although we went occasionally we couldn't understand the obsession until we worked out that she was actually trying to say Bernice.

I think a lot of people end up there as its the only damn place open on sundays, especially in perth.

But even though a lot of people on the forums go there, if you suggest sunday trading on these forums people tend to go a bit crazy against it, with some missed placed idea that it will spoil the world or something if more shops were to open on sundays

In fairness there are other places open in Perth on a Sunday.

Some guys I used to work with called Bunnings, 'the church.' Conversations on a Monday morning went something like:

"Did you go to church on Sunday?"

"Yeah, got myself some good timber for the new fence and a nail-gun; it's awesome! How about you?"

"Sure, I didn't need anything really but came away with beaut gas barbie for the summer. Our old one had nearly had it, anyway. Tried the new one out when I got home and cooked up a storm!"

But where the shelves are actually stocked and where (in our closest one anyway) the staff are visible and actually know what they're talking about. Can't speak for other branches but the one at Burleigh is excellent, even if I do have to go by the sausage sizzle on the way for hubby or tiddler :D

A side issue: The performance of places like Bunnings, B&Q, Homebase etc serves as a good indicator of how well a country is performing economy wise.

we spend a lot of time at Bunnings since we bought our house but the one thing that puts me off is the sausage sizzle I can smell it as soon as we get out of the car it makes me feel sick the smell of all that fat  would help if they had decent sausages.

How?

If their busy maybe it means people are skint and are doing things themselves instead of getting tradies in. Just a thought.

Not in our house. I'm the one who does the projects. When we renovated our kitchen to sell our house it was me who installed the timber flooring, wall tiling and new counter tops. The OH did help with the heavy lifting, but otherwise it was my project. I've just been online to rent a brick saw for when I finish laying the driveway at our new build. (The man of the family will be working inside hanging electric fixtures etc)

To be fair, you both sound very similar. My wife can render, tile, pave etc, but she cannot use a hammer or screwdriver without creating more work for me to fix. She puts more work into the projects than myself because I have to work 5 1/2 days a week, and she has the time. But she should still be banned from Bunnings !!!! ;)

I used to like going....dreaming of possible improvements/projects I could do and the tools that I could buy to do them!:D

Now, my wife comes .....we have just bought a property and she has already looked at timber for a three level deck, bathroom suites for the on suite I am going to build, and fencing for the garden!!!!!!!!!

The dream is now over.....every visit is now a nightmare........ I am going to have to start using the power tools it has taken me many years to collect.

not to mention plastering, wallpapering, painting, mosaic walls etc etc

On the other hand, she ordered about 10 tons of crushed rock for the garden 2 days before jetting off to Holland with the kids for a holiday, and left me the task of moving it with the wheelbarrow before our new lodgers in our unit arrive in a fortnight. :frown:

Its bloody dark out there now :sneaky:

I just spent the last 4 hours breaking my back. Last Friday about 3 hours in between the showers, and i'm just over half way.

I must admit, going out all day last Sunday on the bike didnt speed matters up :D

I come from a set of parents who never thought of anything as "man's work" or "women's work". If something needed doing everyone did it. My dad made all 5 of his daughters take a basic auto mechanic's course before we could get our driving license (we lived in the country, so driving was important) and all of my brothers had to take a home ec course so they could cook and sew for themselves. My dad's philosophy was that we should all be self sufficient.

I love doing mosaic. When we were still in Canada I did a lot of stained glass work and have tons of glass left over. I'm going to do a mosaic with some of the smaller pieces for our water feature at the new house.

I would love to take a metalwork course and learn how to do wrought iron work. There was a blacksmith shop about 2 hours from where I lived and used to go up there to watch him work. I don't seem to see those type of short courses here, though.

My wife's playgroup raise funds in their annual sizzle and make 2000 bucks easily.

Example of Australian fund-raising at play.

Broke our Bunnings virginity on Friday: my wife has mentally spent thousands.....which is fine as long as I get the barbie.......have to say, very well stocked, lots of staff and always somewhere to play for the kids.
