has anyone built goy there own house built in nz or know any one who has is it cheaper would appreciate some info

It depends where exactly you plan to build.

I read the nz herald the other day and it said that there has been a hugh rise in people wanting to build their own houses that the builders have hugh waiting lists. Its good for the builders as they will be busy for a while yet even if the house market quitens down. If you are prepared to wait six months until work starts ....

My hubby and I maybe going down the same road as you. Houses are sold so quick here in west Auckland.

we are probly going to either canterbury,bay of plenty,wellington
them three areas apealed to us but we are hoping to go over there with in the next couple of months and check we like it.
im a carpet and wood fitter and trying to get all the info togethr to please the tra office. dont know for deffinaite thats enough yet
to please them hope so
would be nice to know how much you have to spend to get nice house in good area.
