Default Building a Queenslander...

in Mudgeeraba on the Gold Coast. :scared: Settlement on land end of this month and trying to decide on builders. Inbetween two at the moment. Anyone from the Brisbane area ever used Garth Chapman Traditional Queenslanders? They're top of our list. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with them? Cheers. Michelle x

Hi Michelle, it's Emma.

Have a look through the thread 'building your own home' or something which is above your post on the main page. Just had a look through the replys and there was a person on there who built a queenslander with your chosen company. She has attached a few photos.

Might be of interest.

Hope you are well and hope for a get together soon

Take care
Emma

Yep, pictures are on the house building thread.

The quality of the build is very good and I think you get more for your money than with comparative builders, but lets face it, there aren't too many of them. In retrospect, I would have gone with bespoke builders Waratah Homes. Its fine if one of their designs is what you want, we've got the Ascot, which is their biggest, but we have a huge rotunda out the front that we'll never use, it just makes the house look nice!

Garth don't actually build their own houses but sub-contract the work out. This means that once you've signed the contract, you won't hear from them again until the house is finished. They provide the door knocker and we had to wait 6 months for it. However, our actual builder was very good. He was a genuine builder, not a project manager and used his own people. Our head carpenter was excellent.

Steve, from the Brisbane office told us that the whole process would take 9 months, but it actually took 11 months from signing the contract, plus a few extra months to finalise the design. Other things always seemed to crop up and he was always busy, although he was very nice.

PM me if you want to know more.

Jane

Thanks for that Jane - will send you a pm. Yep - if I had bothered to read through the Housebuild Thread, I would have found your pics. House looks fab - ours will be a lot smaller based on the Georgina. Sounds like we'll be renting for a while then Michelle x
