Question Building in Perth

Hi All,

We have managed to secure a block of land (just at the top of our budget, it's crazy the way prices have been going!) and are now looking at display homes etc. to look for a builder. We want build a single story for less than 200K.

Just wondering if anyone had any bad experiences with the well known builders out there?? It's hard to know which builders are reliable, as their displays all look nice but that's not really what counts...

So I would be interested in any of your experiences/recommendations.

Also, is there a forum out there where people discuss building issues etc??

Thanks!
Scoofy

A friend has just had a house built by B&W (I think that's right) & is very happy with the result. I think they are one of the more upmarket builders & are not the cheapest. I think Dale Alcock are ok too. The main problem you are going to have is time frame. Some people are waiting up to 2 years to get a house built.

Good luck

You'll always find someone who has a gripe about a builder, no matter who the builder is there will always be someone who has had a problem with them. My cousin built with Collier and had big problems which ended in arbitration, but i know several others who've been fine, a friend built with Perceptions took 3 years and by the time they moved in the house was unsuitable for them (designed when they were a couple now have 2 kids!) so they are after some land to build again. Dale Alcock would have you believe that they are the best for build quality, finishing and customer service but in reality i think you'll get as many moans about them as anyone else. Friends of ours who are building their 16th home at the moment swear by Scott Park who they have used for the last 3 homes they have built and won't use anyone else now. I think the best way to go is find the house style that suits you and fits your budget and go with it.
