Default Builders and real estate

Is it expensive to get a builder to build a new home in comparison to buying a similar property ready built?

Hope that makes sense

Depends what you buy really, take on a small level "s" site in a housing estate, put a basic plan on it and finish it off yourself and you can save a few bob on what the bloke next door will want for his.

Best way to come unstuck is to underestimate the real cost of building, the show home price is nothing but get you in the door bullshi!, and will cost way more to actually build/finish.

Costs on slope/sand/clay/rock are basically unknown untill way into the construction as even with the soil test you cant pick exactly whats underneath every inch.

Most poms seem to love suburban housing estates and plomp a fairly standard brick/tile jobbie on them, providing they sign up subject to the engineers investigations they could be OK. Be aware tho any good builder probably wont have a spot for at least 12 months tho, if they can fit you in next month wonder why.

Thanks for the input.

I was hoping that it would be a little cheaper to buy a plot of land and get a builder to build a home to our spec for us rather than buy a ready built house.
