Has anyone else used these for cheap calls to OZ?

Hi,

Getting sick of email, no replies from Oz so i am going to start to call people in the great land of OZ!

Its seems as usual BT are taking the p!ss with regards to the cost of calling OZ? 30 pence per minute, below it seems around 2 pence per minute, is there any catch, where for example the first five mintutes it is charged for a minium call length/cost of five quid etc?

Has anyone used any of these companies so to help reduce the cost a calling OZ on a regular basis?

Cheers!

Hi forkandknife

Don't know whether this helps but my son and his wife have recently moved to Adelaide (Sept 07). I'm on BT Option 2 and have now taken up their Freedom International option, which means that for just £5 extra a month, I can call Australia any time any day and talk for up to an hour without paying any extra. If I want to talk longer, I put the phone down and just redial.

Don't know whether this would help you in the short-term? Best of luck with your search.

Sorgeal, cheers mate, thanks for taking the time to reply, might be an option, to be honest i am looking for something similar to the links, but you know the old saying read the small print, sometimes its better to ask on here and listen for any horror stories first?

Cheers Fork!

That's the one. It's still showing 1p per minute but it told me today (when I rang Adelaide) that it would be 2p.
Anyway, I had 90 mins on the phone with my buddy, so whether it cost 90p or £1.80, still good value I think. Cheaper than a bottle of Becks!!
I have checked my bills also and there is no overcharging (to date!!)

Nice one mate, cheers, good feedback aswell! I will give it a go, get onto these Ozy's and ask them why they do not respond to this new invention we have come across in the UK, the email? Maybe its to advanced, bloody frustrating though, you need an email ringback type service or an email read clarification service!

So if i want to call this number in Redcliffe, Brisbane (07) 3283 3355, how do i plug it into the phone, what is the sequence of digits etc?

OZ Code - 0061

Brisbane Code - 7

2 pence per minute code - 0844 720 2007

You've got it....
It's basically their "code" which allows them to use the BT line, but at a rate they choose to charge (all about "un-monopolising" etc..)

So...

08447 20 20 2007.
There is then a voice prompt that guides you, but all you do is dial as you would normally: 0061 etc.. then press the hash key (it tells you all this, don't worry..)

There is another called tele-discount. 08444 621621. Same rates, I believe..

Good luck!
