Broadband in North Sydney (Manly)?
Hi
I have noticed a couple of threads being posted which are warning people about Telstra and lack of broadband in certain areas.
In the UK, when broadband comes to town it usually means a whole area can get connected. Is this the same in Oz (ie can people get broadband in North Sydney / Manly) or is it specific to your own individual telephone number - so some people in a block of flats can get it, but others can't??
Cheers, SS

To add to this some exchanges actualy have other supliers equipment in them for example my exchange has iinet (and internode) in it so I can get 12,000k or even 24,000k as of a few weeks ago( about 10 times faster then BB telstra offer).
Add to this Telstra or whoever rolled put some telephone systems years ago using a 'pair gain' system. The quick way to explain this is (usualy in flats but sometimes houses) numbers share the same line, which works fine for telephones but not for Broad band ( and is not that good for dial up either).
You can request Telstra to move you off Pair gain for free but if there are no spare connections at the exchange or they are not having a good day then good luck!!
For example I was in Coogee on Pair gain and had very slow dial up, I moved ot Newtown and have very fast BB! But companies are in the process of rolling out equipment to as many exchanges as possible.
If you go to a site called whirlpool.net.au you can find any information you want on the subject.
