Default Broadband - how do you decide which?

Hi
we have been using dial up and it is slowwwww, when I look for broadband it is so confusing.
I used to have aol broadband in the UK and it was great.
We need to be able to download music (we have teenagers) and need relatively effecient speed.
We are in Sydney.
Any ideas which option might suit us?
Thanks
Tara

Why? We have gone with Telstra Big Pond and been really pleased with it so far but only been with them for 1 month.

It can depend on the plan you get, and how long you are tied to them. I got stuck for 18 months with them on a 256k plan !
I switched as soon as I could, saved 25% per month, and got speed 6 times as fast !!

Thanks ABC, come to think of it, I tied myself into 24months of 512k unlimited but have landline, mobile and TV with them too so got 6 months half price and 250 free local calls a month.
I was shopping around but got so confused in the end.

Unreliable, slow, expensive, overly long contracts, bad service and regular breakdowns are some of the reasons Telstra is also known as Helstra.

Yehp I'm with IInet as well, changed from Iprimus, and waiting for adsl2 to be enabled.

It's 12,228/1024 speed v 1512/256 1512 is the download speed of adsl at it's max, and 256 is how fast you send the info, so if you are sending little movies to england etc they will transfer up a lot fast on the upload of Adsl2 which is 12,228 down, and 1024 up

Basically what it means is ADSL2 is 45 times faster than the 256 standard installations that you see quoted in the newspapers.

whats more it's about the same price. IInet were the first to start advertising adsl 2
