Broadband -dodo?
Just looking at ISPs. www.dodo.com.au seems a reasonable deal, especially as it doesn't have any download limits. Is anybody using it?

Can you give me a bit more info about TPG - set up costs, speed etc Thanks Helen Unlimited is good if you are a heavy filesharer. I found TPG a bit slow and their network can get overloaded with all the filesharers. www.iinet.com.au www.internode.com.au and www.swiftdsl.com.au are good alternatives. With dodo do you really want that in your e-mail address? What is the lifespan of a Dodo. |
Great ! THanks BoniPom, your info on this has been so useful

Also find it strange nameing your high speed internet company after an extinct flightless bird (irony.... no just crap) Anyway Unless you are a heavy file sharer I doubt you will use more than one or 2 gb a month. There are 2 options when you sign up if you go over. 1 Shaping. When you hit your limit you go to dial up speed 2 Excess rates Swiftdsl rate is 5c a mb (5$ a GB) which is good. Telstra is known to be a rip off on excess rates and should be avoided at all costs. Crap service, high downtime but technically OK. |
Re: Broadband -dodo?
I used dodo for dialup, and thought they were excellent value for money. I didn't have any problems with their service. I couldn't comment on what their broadband is like though (and yes, that bird is annoying!).

I've downloaded 610Mb so far this month, but Telstra will charge for 1,034MB due to the 424mb of uploads. No one else seems to charge for these ! I'm looking forward to September when my contract expires :) |

Re: Broadband -dodo?
It does sound like they are running a dodo service after all, charging for uploads as well? That means if i was to use that service, i would have had to pay a fortune for my downloaded albums this year, and everybody else that nicked off me.

I only use dial-up, but Dodo are excellent, the line doesnt drop like it did when we had Optus , stays connected all day if you want (which is important when you have to pay Hellstra for every connection), and no download limit if you are on their 3-monthly plan. Costs me about $70 for 3 months, which is by far the best deal I could find for unlimited hours.

I am using iiNet. Ihave been with them for almost 2 months now, and would happily recommend them so far.
I would agree wit bondipom that unless you are into file sharing or downloading massive movie files, you won't need more than about 2gb download per month. I signed up for a plan which allows 16gb at peak, with an additional 16gb off-peak, but I've got nowhere near it yet. Be careful of deals that appear too cheap. You can get deals around $20 to £30 per month, but this will usually be for 256kbps not 512kbps and you will usually be limited to around 300mb downloads. You would generally then be charged for each extra mb you download. I think it is probably best to just spend that extra bit more, and know that you won't be hit with any surprises at the end of the month. |
