I realise someone has probably posted this before, but I had no joy searching the forum.

I was wondering if any of the U.K. terrestrial channels, or indeed any British satellite/cable channels are easily available in Oz, i.e. through cable or satellite?

The Oz equiv of Sky is Foxtel and they have a UKTV channel which has Eastenders and Corrie and other UK progs, but I'm afraid the short answer to your question is no.

You can also get some UK progs on the terrestrial channels here. ABC show The Bill, Parkinson and BBC natural history progs and you can also regularly watch progs such as Dalziel and Pascoe, Midsomer Murders and Heartbeat.

Aussies are mainly fed a diet of US crime dramas like CSI, SVU and NCIS, I'm afraid.

They are showing Little Britain & a few other BBC "comedies", there are quite a few British shows - mainly on ABC but channel 7 shows a couple.

I watched "Teachers" and "Shameless" here recently (they were old series though), I'm sure they were on SBS.

I'm watching the BBC series 'Life on Mars' at the moment, downloaded via UKNova. It's brilliant, some of the best drama I've seen for a while.

I want a mark II Cortina like they've got!

Ah yes the old cortina,first car for me that was (it's a mark 3 in the series) I had the 1600 E Mk2 myself and then went onto the mark3 and 4.I was only saying to Mrs rugbymad the other night how you no longer see the old cars that were first car fodder for people our age ie the Cortina,vaux Chevette,viva or the old mk1 /2 escort.I did buy a Mk2 1600e about 6 years ago,1971 on a j plate,last year they were made I think and it was my pride and joy along with my Lambretta and Vespa but had to sell them to be able to afford our house !! I wish I still had it now! My mate has the Lotus Cortina Mk2 which he puts in shows etc,it's in A1 condition and worth about £13k he tells Me!!!! I think the mark1 Lotus Cortina are worth upwards of £15k for a good one now! I think you can still buy a tidy mk2/3 for less than £2k.Mine was gold with full vinyl roof ..lovely.I miss that car!

not seen the programme yet,just the trailer,but is it not a mark4 cortina.i had a mark3 2000e cortina,they were a bit bigger then the mark4.also had a mark2 1600e cortina,a pea green mark1 cortina,a 3 litre granada,the sweeney one and two 2.8 granada ghias.like all cars in the late seventies and early eighties they all succumbed to rust but at least they had character.aarrhh they were the days.

In the tv series it's a mk3 2000e,it can't be a mk4 on that reg,mk4 wasn't until 1976 and the series is set in 1973,deffo a 2000e mk3.As well as rust problems all mine had void bush problems,when they "went" the old car used to wallow terrible,real charecter those cars!! I want another now

Watch very carefully as they have two Mk3's the same colour. One is the 2000E and one is a GXL (as seen on the front Grill). Its hard to spot during the programme but I saw a recorded advert for the series before it started and you could be both cars very clearly :-) Sad I know but they were cars from my youth !

Looks like I got the mark wrong. I knew it wasn't a mark 4 as I had one of those. I didn't really like it. Your's must be similar to the one in the series. It looks great with the alloys. I watched Monday's episode tonight. Very good.

I shall be a very happy man indeed if when I get to Oz I find that shows like X-Factor, Big Brother, Celebrity Love Island or any other similar brain dead telly aren't shown.

I'd be an even happier man if the soaps don't clog up the main channels

Unfortunately we have local versions of all that shit (Biggest loser starting soon) & soaps too.

Our TV stays off a lot!
