Hi everyone like most i'm after some advice on getting my electrical qualification in Auz.

background: worked as an eletrician since 2003 in the UK in refrigeration installation, repair and maintenance. in 2007 i sat an electrical test, a BS7671:2001, then worked on domestic rewiring testing and maintenance until 2009.

Last year i sent off everything i could find to artc, as my electrical background is scattered over 4 companies and some of the time was spent self employed, the information i had wasnt good enough for them to ok me.

I'm stuck, i'm not sure i can find the information they are after, as some of the companies are no longer trading and the person who trained me can not be found to contact.

is there anything i can do? maybe a course i can sit over here to recognise my skills. is it worth working as a trade assitant to give artc some evidence that i'm good enough for them to ok my skills?

Is the OffShore Technical Skills Record OTSR easier to gain than the ARTC ?

I did exactly the same thing,And I had a whole lot more in certs,Apprenticeship and work history. And I lost heart for a bit. but then went to an agent (Ian Harrop). Eventually got them to do everything, As said before you can find all the info on HERE. Basically you need written evidence from previous employers/ work mates and You should be able to find a draft copy on other threads. It has to include statements regarding what you did.ie followed drawings/diagrams cut conduit using....installed cable trunking using.... wired and connected pvc insulated conductors using pliers, screwdrivers..... I thought it was a bit of a joke, But it gets your trade recognised. Did it all before changes so I know there is a trade test etc now.
But keep all origional documents when you come because you have to do it all again with the TRA in Victoria to get your license. But that was free if you have your origional reference number. And yes there is along drawn out process to get your license here. I thought that was rediculous aswell, But then you meet people who can call themselves electricians here and wonder how the hell they slipped through the net.

Thanks for the info, yeah its seems a bit of a joke, but i'm sure it's worth while in the end, as for auzzy sparkies, everything i have seen leads me to believe they dont follow any standards. i've seen some really poor installations along my travels, it frustrats me that they are considered electricians. oh well heres to having another shot at it, i've found some useful info on this site already so hopefully i'll get a better responce this time. :fingerscrossed:
