Default Brissie Weather - is that it?!

We emigrated may 2003 so this is our 2nd summer in Brisbane.

Is it my imagination or is it tonnes cooler this year? Even taking into account that we may be getting used to it I don't think it is anywhere near as bad as last year.

If we had ac (which we don't) I reckon we would have used it very rarely.

Also, where's the cracking thunderstorms? I really enjoyed those last year - not many of them this year.

If last year was the worst that could be thrown at us (hopefully! was bad!) then the weather isn't really that great a deal.

Do you reckon we might be on our way to getting cooler now?

Hiya jwatsonoz,

it could be global warming :scared:

Oh well, that's one of the reasons for migrating gone
I'd better pack the electric blankets

Bye

I've been away the past two weeks, but it does feel a lot cooler now I'm back, however last year I think was exeptionally hot. The weather this morning said that we could be looking at 14C over Feb average late this/early next week

As for thunderstorms, there's been a few I think. About three weeks ago there was that four hour dry storm, and a couple of weeks before that a huge downpour. Melbourne & Sydney seem to have gotten a few more this year. I remember Feb 2003 when I first got here, it seemed to rain everyday for a fortnight, so I'd rather this weather than that any day

Thanks God, no thundrestorms this time. Last summer we were 2 days without electricity - NOT FUN!

And there was only one heatwave, that's why it feels so good. We bought a house with a pool, I can't wait to install "good neighbour" fences for early-morning dips! Brissie is great.

Summer definitely cooler this year. We've had some 37-38C days (in my back yard) but not the 42C+ of last year.

Last year was exceptionally hot & not really the norm, but on the other hand, I think this year has been relatively cool & not really the norm either. Certainly my guess is that we are well down on average rainfall for the summer months (does anyone know the figures?), we seem to have had hardly any rain at all! I was just commenting on how few storms we have had this year on the weekend, glad its not just my imagination.

ABC is probably the better man for this job, but here and here you can see the inverse change of rainfall over the past 12 months in the Brisbane region.

Long run averages:

Dec 133.3mm
Jan 159.6
Feb 158.3

Total 451mm

04/05 actual to date

Dec 221.8
Jan 91
Feb 30

Total 342.8mm

Down 25% on long run averages, though if we get 100mm in the next dew days we'll be on track.

I was thinking the lawn was looking dry again, there's only been 4mm of rain since 3 Feb.

Exactly what we said last night! And no storms, well there was one but we were in Melbourne at the time, son told us about it. Very placid summer, uunless March is going to be a rippa

It's been much cooler in Perth too, and humid.
