brissie suburbs help!!
hi we're a middle aged couple heading brissie way hopefully by the end of the year!! we've been trying to find suburbs etc but am struggling to find somewhere that takes our fancy!
we're wanting to live approx 40mins via train from brisbane cbd. 10-15 min walk to the beach, local restaurants bars and shops to keep us entertained!! we've got 2 dogs so would like somewhere with park areas to walk them. we're not bothered about schools as don't have young children.
that's all that we're looking for......we'd be grateful of any info that you think could help us find an area we'd like to live!!!
cheers

Sounds like Wellington Point would be ideal for you.
lovely cafes, and restaurants small beach where you can walk over to King Island with water either side of you. Its heaven theres a small pier/jetty where you can watch the fish swim underneath you. I have to say it was one of my favourites absolutely stunning.
Have to say it was bliss I can just see it now I cant wait to get there.
There is a direct train into CBD and because it is near the end of the line theres usually plenty of seats first thing. I think its about 20 mins on train if I remember rightly dont quote me though.
Hope this helps

Wellington Point is lovely - I live here. But bear in mind there is no close beach. There is a spit which leads out to King Island that you can walk your dogs on from the reserve at the point. Its a great spot, but no real beaches with surf etc. But thats the same Brisbane wide.
On the plus side the ferry leaves for Straddie and the other islands very close by and you can explore the bay and the great beaches there.
As to parks, there is a godo dog off leash area in Birkdale, about 2 mins from Wello point where dog owners meet up and let thier dogs off the lead and run around with each other. Mine gets knackered everyday from that alone!
Its an hour into the CBD by train and 30/40 by car. Sought after area to live in so property can attract a small premium but its not too bad.
Personally I drove 1000's of ks around Brisbane trying to find something that matched up to Wello Pt. Wouldnt leave here now.

Wellington Point, along with all other waterfront suburbs of Brissy, doesn't really have a "beach" as such- more like mudflats and water meeting rocks. But Brissy is about an hour's drive from the beautiful Sunshine and Gold Coasts, so you have the best of both worlds.

Thanks everyone for that - we are coming out to do a reccie in October so we have both Wellington Point and Victoria Point on our list. We've only got two weeks there so want to narrow it down as much as we can before we get there, hoping to be out there permanently Jan/Feb

Redcliffe, north of Brisbane. Rental and house prices are still pretty cheap and it is a peninsula so there is beach on three sides of it. It is a town in its own right and is sort of halfway between the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane. There is a canal estate as well.

Wellington Point, Cleveland and Victoria Point are all great locations, close to the water, with bike/walking paths, restaurants, shops. Manly is another popular spot, with a direct train line into the City.
Redcliffe is also lovely, if you are looking for a sea side feel, have a look at this website http://www.redcliffe.qld.gov.au/tourism/
I run a relocation business covering Brisbane/Sunshine Coast/Gold Coast. Let me know if I can help further.

BTW Redcliffe has beaches with sand and waves (small waves but still waves). The jetty area is nice with different cafes (Italian food, Coffee shops etc) and shops. Whale watching expeditions leave from the jetty and ferries that take you to the dolphin resort on Moreton Island. There is a great family artificial swimming lagoon right on the waterfront and beaches with fish and chip shops and ice cream parlours.
Rental is around $AU250-320 a week though some 'executive' houses can cost you about $AU450-500 a week. If you are buying it is probably best to do it now because house prices are going up. Seaside properties are in high demand and the price rises the closer your block is to the water. Just south of Redcliffe in Sandgate (which has the train line and is closer to Brisbane city but only has a mudflat beach) we looked at a two bedroom house for sale that didn't even have a kitchen (literally there was an empty room that had the pipes for a sink but no sink or even benches and that was it!) but they expected upwards of $AU500,000 because it was two blocks from the sea.
