Brisbane - Where to live
 

Hi Everyone

Does anyone happen to have a copy of 'PeteY's' info doc on Brisbane posted in Oct 2003, I have tried opening it but can't seem to. Was wondering if anyone had a copy that they would not mind posting again, so I could have a look.

Just read Tim Sorell's immigration Guide thought it was really good highly recommended if your thinking of Brisbane with loads of useful information.
He has put a lot of time into this well worth a read.!:)

Just a quick point on the Statistics for Brisbane Suburbs :-

That Tim Sorrell document really is very good :)

The information on the Brisbane suburbs was from
a spreadsheet I posted on here a while ago.

The median house prices were from the REIQ profile of each
suburb for the financial year 2003/2003. So yes a little out of
date, but OK if used as a comparison between suburbs (which
was what I was trying to do) , rather than a definitive idea of
current house prices.

I know house prices have gone up since, but I had to try and
get a benchmark somehow.

For a more up to date idea of prices you have to look
at real estate sites, but they weren't that consistent
(ie same house, different prices).

I'm sorry if I may have misled anyone, I posted the spreadsheet
as I thought it might be helpful.

Karen - the spreadsheet was very helpful indeed and thanks for taking what must have been some considerable time and effort in putting it together ;)

These kind of things are always going to get dated fairly quickly, especially anything that includes property prices :). Doesn't matter though as any information is better than no information at all !!!

The spreadsheet is very good, lots of very useful info, and my only reason for commenting on the prices, was for the benefit of those that may not be aware of the massive property price increases that we have seen. eg: Wynnum West median price is shown at $235,000, but this figure has risen to $ 301,000 at 29th Feb 2004, with the average being $341,000.

Unfortunately it has been impossible to keep up with price movements recently, even the Real Estate agents couldn't do it :)

However, it is still a very good guide to compare the areas. And even though property prices have changed, the rental figures will still be about right.

Long time no speak. Yes we are still considering Melbourne - but I have been told that Brisbane seems to have a lot of print/media jobs going and wanted to look into what it was like before we make a decision one way or the other.

How are you keeping?

The spreadsheet you have posted is excellent event if the house prices are a little out of date. I don't suppose theres anyway of also getting a distance time comparison to the Gold Coast as well. We're interested in moving somewhere between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Somewhere that's a short distance to the Gold Coast but within commuting distance to Brisbane.

My husband needs to get a couple more years experience to get into Oz, unless things change, so we are just getting on with things here really. I guess it just wasn't our time, but I'm kind of hoping that the time will come one day....

The full spreadsheet I created for myself has a lot more
information than the one I posted on here as
Excel spreadsheets can not be posted on here directly.

The full spreadsheet doesn't have the actual distance/time
to the Goldcoast on it, but I did links to the distance calculator
between all the suburbs and Surfer's Paradise on the Gold coast
(also Caloundra for the Sunshine coast) so if there was a
particular suburb you were interested in you could click on
the link and it would bring up the map showing distance/time
and detailed directions.

If you would like the full spreadsheet PM me your e-mail
address and I'll send it to you.

Though most places anywhere near the Gold coast are over an
hour from Brisbane.

Anyway let me know and I'll e-mail it ASAP.

I am sure you will be out there soon as soon as you can. Did hubby get assessed by an Agent to come to that decision? Or just by the Immigration requirement?
