Brisbane vs Adelaide
Can anyone sum up the differences as above? I'm considering Adelaide because (mainly) Brisbane is a bit too large for my liking. Its a bit larger than I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong Brisbane isn't bad but there just isn't anything remarkable about the place - no nice beaches or mountains without considering driving and traffic.
I'm going to pop down there for a week holiday to check it out - if anyone can recommend what's worth doing down there that would be useful. Thinking of going in June/July. |

Try Hobart. Very very pretty. Beaches and mountains. Small too. |

Yes it is, but mid 30 or 40 furnace heat is no more pleasant than 30 and humid.

Re: Brisbane vs Adelaide
I've literally just moved to Brisbane and really liking the weather, as far as a Large city, I would certainly say it's smaller than London. I really like the nightlife in Brisbane.
My complaints are that I've waited for 3 weeks now to get the internet online, and currently having to wireless into a neighbors internet just to get online. Unbelievable. But I love the fresh air here! It's down right mad. |
Re: Brisbane vs Adelaide
Hi
We have been to both and both have some merits but for me I could not live in either, the humidity/rain in Brisbane really got to me and although Adelaide is a dry heat much like Perth (where we lived) I found after a while that there was not much to do in Adelaide the "city" seemed smaller than Perth! Are these two Cities your only choice? I would try Victoria or NSW both have larger towns outside the city so more work on offer and plenty to do. In Adelaide we use to visit Handoff and some of the vineyards and the indoor market use to be good in the City. Good luck |

Me and my partner don't go out much, except maybe to the cinema. We cook far better than most restaurants that cost < $100 per head so we don't dine out that often and I like drinking at home so a big town/city is utterly wasted on me. I also love the outdoors and nature a lot. The downside is that because I am a computer programmer its unlikely I'd ever find work in such a small town. Brisbane isn't bad but its not what I want long term. I like how I can live in a mountain jungle and commute to work in 40 minutes. Downside is that its a bit unremarkable in terms of beaches and scenery and the weather. |

That doesn't always have to be the case. In a big city you have more competition, so the chances of getting a job are the same in a smaller town with less applicants. I'm sure even in Tasmania computer programmers have a chance.
Not impossible as you imply but I think much more difficult. |

Re: Brisbane vs Adelaide
Try Mount Barker in SA. Small town but a (moderately) easy commute into the Adelaide CBD - try driving via the freeway/Upper Sturt Road to Belair and then catching the train to avoid the city peak hour traffic. Stirling and Aldgate are even closer. Or if beaches are a priority try the Fleurieu Peninsula, somewhere like Normanville or Yankalilla.
