Brisbane Teenagers Required - Sat 1st/Sun 2nd Sep
Hi all,
My husband and I and our 16 year old daughter Becky, are coming to Brisbane for a week from Wednesday 29th Aug - 5th September.
It is generally for a holiday but for a rekkie also, as we are planning to move to Brisbane early next year. We currently live in NZ.
We would love to organise a meet up with families with teenagers currently living in Brisbane around the weekend mentioned above in the title. Our daughter isn't very happy about making another move but we are hoping that if she at least makes a few friends in her age group that she can keep in touch with by email beforehand it will help make the transition smoother.
Does anyone have any ideas about suitable locations to meet up? Do you have teenagers finding it difficult to settle or have teens who would like to meet other teens going through the same experiences?
We know from personal experience how hard it is for older children to settle following immigration (we have one living in the UK!) so if anyone has any ideas or would like to join in - reply away.
Debbie

Hey there
well I will put my hand up and say we'll come along but you do realise that dragging them along is like pulling teeth? lts a really hard age for people to get them socialising and to be honest even if you do get them out you do realise they will just sit there and ignore each other? Mate from experience just take them to a meet up and when they get bored enough they will start chatting
Best of luck x

Teenagers are definitely like pulling teeth, I can vouch for that.
I know when we had not been living long in NZ, when we were invited to a meet up with parents with other teenagers in tow. The adults got stuck in straight away to chatting and drinking and although the kids were all shy to begin with, they soon got chatting to each other. I think they all have the 'move to another country' in common with each other, and this helps with finding something to talk about.
By the time we left the meet up, Becky had all their telephone numbers and messenger email addresses and keeping in touch with the 'gang' really helped to settle her. Some were happy with making the move and some weren't and they really formed their own support group.
I was just hoping that we could find some families to meet up with during our break in Brisbane. As we are not currently living there and haven't been before, I will have to rely on suggestions of where we could meet, from those of you lucky to be living there already.

That's a shame, we're moving to Brisbane, myself, 16 year old daughter and 11 year old son. Unfortunately we don't arrive till the 5th or I would have met up with you.
Perhaps we can give each other a wave at Brissie airport
