Brisbane suburb which ?
 

Ok so have only been to Melbourne and Adelaide. Now deciding to move over, after plenty of research we settled on the upper Mornington area of Melbourne between Mt Eliza and Martha. Due to very good school (penn), size of houses all be it a bit more money that we would like, easy access to beach and open space areas and 30-40 minutes to the danedong industrial area for my business.
We wanted to move over for lifestyle and business oppertunity reasons, not hot weather. So ruled out Bris.
But now thinking we ought to give it a look to make sure.

Going by the area of Melbourne we went for. Can anyone recommend a suburb of Bris that might be up our street, nice 4-2-2- house with a good yard, good school, short distance to beach and or open spaces, within a reasonable commute of a main industrial area. I have no clue about the place at all.

No beaches in Brisbane I'm afraid........about an hour's drive to good beaches from the city.

We are renting 40kms South of Bribane, there is a large industrial area Southwest of the City,where I hope I have a job. there is quite a bit either side of the Pacific highway in patches right down the coast( I`ve only seen South of the City!).Work is your biggest hurdle and will influence where you settle. I will have a 50 min drive to and from work, but a vehicle is supplied so I struck lucky.The beaches are 20 mins to 50 mins away depending on which one you fancy.We love the area and want to buy here if We can. Do ask the questions on here though and you will get alot of info on many specific suburbs. Cos` you could pick a wrong`un, We almost did, We kind of rushed in to a rental and nearly signed up, but found some others which were a better deal then found our current one and I think We made the right choice. Believe Me when things look a bit bleak and I`m sure they will at some point you do not want to be brought down further by your immediate surroundings.Good luck and feel free to ask for any more info.

Redcliffe is just as far away as those ones with a much better beach

Distance From Brisbane CBD to Redcliffe: 42 kilometres
Distance From Brisbane CBD to Wellington Point: 21 kilometres

But yes, Redcliffe has a much better beach...

The Brisbane CBD beach is very good for kids though...

Lots of people like the Bayside areas, with their little beaches, and cooler Summer weather.

what about time? Redcliffe has 100km/h freeway leading into Brisbane. Off peak it takes me 35 mins from South Brisbane to Redcliffe. Peak hour is about 50-55 mins

We are about 36km out and peak hour travel to Brisbane is about 50 minutes for us, so Wellington Point should be about 30 minutes ? at a guess.

Was interested in this thread, as although I live in Sydney (or near enough to it) we have just returned from a trip to Brissie and must say that we love it around the Sandgate, Redcliffe, Scarborough area. That would be a wonderful place to bring up kids, as so much outdoor space, parks, walking and bike tracks and just so geared to the aussie outdoor way of life. Not to mention the beaches!

I know what people mean about peak hour traffic though as we noticed that the day we left Redcliffe. However they are building the new bridge into Redcliffe and the road work up around the Brisbane area is amazing. Once completed it is going to make trips in and out of Brissie so much quicker.

Try living where we do 35 kms outside of Sydney and on a good day (no accidents, closed lanes etc) the M5 can take you 2 hrs plus. On weekends the same trip takes 35 - 40 mins!!

Good luck whichever suburb you choose.

I moved up here from Western Sydney, and would never go back :thumbup:

I also like Redcliffe, but for us, our area is a bit better.

We've been in Redcliffe for 4 years now, moving here from Brisbane because we wanted:
1) somewhere still affordable to buy
2) somewhere good to bring up the kids
3) nice community lifestyle

For me Redcliffe checked and still does check all of these boxes. It used to have a bad reputation about 15-20 years ago apparently but now that families have discovered it, it is fast becoming a hotspot.

The famous bridge issue is really a lot of hype about nothing IMO. In the 4 years I have been crossing it daily to go to work I have probably been held up no more than half a dozen times. Even then they did not keep me for much more than 10-15 mins.

Once they finish the Gateway upgrade (northside) that will have a massive positive impact on traveling to and from the peninsula as that is where most of the bottleneck is currently.

We bought our 4 bed, brick and tile 15 year old house, with garage and decent garden only 10 min walk from Sutton's Beach for under $300k in 2005. Back then the only places we could buy for that amount were around Collingwood Park/Ipswich area (not the nice parts either) and we wouldn't have had the lifestyle that we do here.

Obviously things are a little more expensive now, but not much more ($350k for similar style house to ours)

It appears a bit too central, and maybe the 4 bed houses could be a bit expensive ?
