Brisbane State High School
Hi All
Looking at possibilities for our son's next school. Going to an open evening tonight, and wondered if anyone had any experience with this school. |

Re: Brisbane State High School
We're looking seriously at this school.
We're not in the catchment area, but given its results stand up to comparison with school charging $15k a year more its definately up for consideration. One daughter would probably get in via academic merit, and the other, even if she cant get in by other means could be got in via paying for a years rent in West End to satisfy the local residential criteria (still much cheaper than any private school fees for 6 years). It is of course ridiculous that I'd consider paying $20,000 rent for a place I have no intention staying in - but its so much more affordable than $18,000 a year school fees it might be worth it! It is the best performing state high school in Brisbane and is only beaten by 3 or 4 private schools in terms of results (and of course the Queensland Academy schools for super-geeks [yr 10-12 only] that wipe the floor results-wise with every other school in the country). If living in West End is something that appeals to you - then absolutely BSHS is a great school. Its often described as "all the advantages of an elite private school - without the disadvantages of cost and snobbery" |
