brisbane recce - where to start

been here in Brisbane for 3 days now. trying to research suburbs but brisbane is HUGE with a capital H. at least it seems that way when you are used to a smallish town in Scotland.
Where do you start?
Looked today at bayside - cleveland, ormiston, wellington point etc etc etc - so sprawled out.
Tomorrow need to look somewhere else - any suggestions?
Looking for
45 min - 1 hr commute to CBD
4 bedrooms
reasonable size plot
family feel to suburb
pool would be nice!!!!!

thanks

Hi Tracy!

Have you got a Brisbane and Region Map? If not they are worth getting, costs about $8. You can have a look at the different suburbs in relation to where you want to be and then plan an area to look around each day. That way you won't be driving around aimlessly not really having a clue where to go. It was a great help to us. Have a fab time on your reccie!

For a more rural feel (and acreage) that is just within your 1 hour commute (on a good day) you may want to head a bit more south:

e.g. Bahrs Scrub, Buccan, Stockleigh, Windaroo, Wolfdene.

Hi Carol & Ian

Have no idea where to live yet - Brisbane is such a big area and it all looks very liveable.

We have had enough of looking around now and have booked ourselves into a hotel in Surfers for our final week starting next Tuesday - cant wait to relax a bit and enjoy the sunshine. Seen too much sun through a windscreen!!

Speak to you soon - but not too soon!

Tracy & Chris

hello, i'm back from offshore. good to hear you are sitting back and chillin' out. Hope you have found somewhere decent to settle. We don't want to be staying in some termite infested dive when we come over to visit you from perth..... and you better have a pool, with a big beer fridge next to it..... or else.
Enjoy the rest of your trip, catch up with you when you get back.

If you want one car but rural you may need to come North and look along the Brisbane Central to Caboolture railway line, once you get to Lawnton station you start to hit lot more rural but still close to city and train line. If you don't want North Lakes there's always Cashmere, Petrie, Kallangur, Kurwongbah, Dakabin, Morayfield, Upper caboolture, Narangbah, Burpengary.

Have a look on www.realestate.com and put some of those areas in, if you want a bit land you need to highlight acerage/semi rural. All of them are within 1 hours car drive to city even Caboolture and Petrie to Central Station only 30 to 40 mins depending on if you get the express or not.
