You want ABCDiamond for this one, he lives there and is forever singing it's praises!

I have however visited there and loved it, but real advice needs to come from someone who knows it really well!

I like it. It may not be too everyones taste, but I like peace and quite, relaxed atmosphere, property not too expensive, near the water, plenty of shops, good schools, etc etc..

It took me many years to find the spot I like, though.

The Raby Bay area of Cleveland is quite good for property, but not much for under $1M Raby Bay property
Anything less than $1M wil not be in the Canal frontage part of Raby Bay

Thanks.

When I'm searching property sites I'm looking under Raby Bay, Victoria Point and Cleveland? Are there any other places in the area I should search under?

Paul.

Also in Brisbane are Manly West & Wakerley which are one suburb back from water & Lota which is on the water. I dont think Ransome counts, the only water its on is Tingalpa Ck . And Gumdale is inland as well, which is mainly acreage.

(ABC are you sure you can get from Viccy Point to the city in 30 mins? It takes us about 25 mins when theres absolutely no traffic eg at night & you're alot further out than we are! Or did you mean the 30-60 mins to cover the area up this way as well? )

My wife did Capalaba to Fortitude Valley in 15 minutes, and it takes me 15 mins to get to Capalaba. But then, her driving does scare me more than going round Brands Hatch

It took me 45/50 minutes - Vic Point to the Botanic gardens on a Sunday when the "Picnic In The Park" was on there recently, and we were held back by a fair bit of traffic.

Holy nelly!!!! :scared: :scared: I never realised that she was Ayrton Senna reincarnated .

15 mins Capalaba to the Valley is *really* legging it, even up Old Cleveland Rd. Remind me not to get in a car with her without checking out my life insurance is paid up .

Its really strange to read your mesage, I posted one exactly the same about five months ago and again ABC Diamond came to the rescue.

We moved to Aus two months ago. After completing a years research but never been to Aus before! We had areas marked out on the Redland map - Cleveland, Thornlands, Wellington Point and Victoria Point and Carindale (slightly closer to Brisbane but away from the water). My husband commutes to BCD and takes about 50 mins, 1/2hr off peak.

Views on areas are a personal thing but we made the following;

Cleveland - we fell in love with it as soon as we drove in - people so welcoming and friendly - very laid back. Everywhere you drive in Cleveland you can see the water - two minutes to launch a boat. Just beautiful. Houses are expensive although they are staid at the moment. Has a train station - very handy.

Thornlands is where we are renting at the moment - very new area, lots of land for sale. Bulldozers and diggers everywhere - just as expensive to buy as Cleveland (only 2 mins away).

Wellington Point - very nice, slightly cheaper for housing but on the water.

Victoria Point - not my cup of tea but on the water, slightly cheaper for housing.

Carindale - quite nice but too much of a city feel for us and away from the water.

Raby Bay - Its $1m+ just really large canal side homes - park 4x4 on drive walk through house and drive off boat ! If I had $1m wouldn't live there but each to their own.

Beaches - Sunshine Coast - 50 mins away which is beautiful,
Gold Coast 40 Mins away, not so beautiful, large high rises but lively.

Coochie Island is beautiful but inland so no surfing, just calm water.

North Stradbrooke Island - surf beaches a ferry ride away.

Our boys love Kings Beach at Calundra (Sunshine Coast) - great for boarding and beautiful, we often go up there on a weekend.

Redlands is a great place for kids, local cinema is Capalaba - about 15 mins away. Everything parks/skate parks/cinema/beaches/fishing/computer game 'places' all within easy reach - if a thirteen year old thinks it is great - it must be !

The Redlands area has good quality schools, we choose Sheldon College - where we know our boys (13 & 9) are happy and safe - couldn't recommend the school enough.

In short, Redlands has something for everyone and all tastes. One point to note though, it is not cheap !

Wishing you every success with your move. Brisbane is just great and as the Aussies say - "no worries" !
