Default Brisbane - Phone+ broadband for 6 months ?

Moving into our rental in bayside for only 6 months, Who do people recommend for phone or/and internet. Looking for just 6 months as we expect to be buying at the end of it.

telstra etc want 24 months, and we would like a nice limit as we have several computers arriving on the ship.

Has anyone got their UK adsl modem working ok ? Mines a speedtouch 585.

Thumbs up Re: Brisbane - Phone+ broadband for 6 months ?

We joined AAPT - there is no lock in contract so you can leave when you like. If you get your phone through them you get a discount too. We also got free installation and modem (not sure if that special is still on) so my speedtouch is sitting in a cupboard - no reason it wouldn't work though.

We were in the same boat 6 months ago
You can always use pay per minute dial up in the meantime (we used ripper.com.au which was pretty good).

Dont go with Telstra bigpond for your broadband. Doesnt matter how long your in your rental for as you can just transfer any contract to the new premises.

Can wellington point people get ADSL2+ from eight might plain exchange. Looks a long way. If not, what kind of speeds are people getting ?

Hey mate

Bang your phone number into this and it should tell you everything you need to know:

http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/

BTW, I'm in the same situation but leaning towards iinet based on services offered, no fixed term agreement and reviews

Cheers

Whilrpool is definately the place to do your research and a few tips:

1) DONT go with Telstra
2) DONT go with Telstra
3) DONT go with Telstra.

If you obey those simple rules you shoudl be fine!!

iiNet have a very good reputation throughout Australia and for years all my friends and colleagues who use them have raved about their services.

Theres been a rumour that TPG are about to announce a 150GB plan for $70 a month (40GB peak, 110Gb off-peak) and if thats true then its by far the best value plan in terms of $ per Gb out there...

Make sure you move into a place with an ADSL2 exchange though - many parts of Brisbane havent yet been upgraded and you coudl end up being stuck on a slow ADSL1 exchange!

Think I will go with iinet because need the phone and the 6 month deal. Not sure what kind of speeds you get as its must be at least 15km to the exchange, but it is adsl 2+
