brisbane to perth
really had enough of brisbane now and the odd ways and people here. we've decided either give perth a try or go home. Anyone else done the move and can give us some sort of indications to cost for removals etc? And the best ways to do it?
Many thanks |

Many thanks So I understand it costs just as much to bring your furniture from Bris to Perth as it would to take it home, $7000 est not 100 % sure on that tho. My advice would be to pack your stuff, and leave it in storage in Brisbane(do it through the removal company ($50-60 per week) and rent a fully furnished place here in Perth for 6 months, just in case you don't like what you find here (I thought Brisbane was better/more going on), and then decide to go home. Kent International movers are quite good, Good Luck with what ever you decide |

Many thanks Brisbane is much better than Perth... in many ways. Brisbane is more cultured (yes that's possible), more interesting, closer to other cities, better politics (no gerrymander liike in WA for starters), Perth city centre looks like it hasn't had a paint job or upgrade since the 1970's, beer is more expensive in WA etc etc etc... Perth has nothing compared to many other places in Oz. |

Seen more culture down me local public kazi at home. Is Perth really that bad? Got a few pals over there that really rate it and feel at home. Few English people I've met that have been to both Brisbane and Perth prefer Perth, they all say the same that most places in OZ are similar but QLD is in its own league for small minded mentality. As for politics i really couldnt give a monkeys!! martynm; the city is clean and tidy and most things are well maintained, but the whole place just seems light years behind in everything; health n safety, wages, schooling all the red tape for the slighest things, i've applied for over 60 jobs and had one phone call to say no thanks! Sums queensland people up for me |

I get the feeling QLDers might not like you anyway.. |
Re: brisbane to perth
Perth is not bad at all - thats just someones opinion - we live here and so far like it - you need to come and spend some time and see what you think.
When we first arrived we weren't sure at all thought about heading over to Brissie but now 8 months in we have decided to stay - it is a little behind the times in somethings, wages we manage way better than we ever did in England so its all relative, over here only one of us need work!! To many people on these sites slate Perth and other places but when all said and done it comes down to choice, doesn't make for us all to like the same things. COme over give it a try and then at least you will know if you do head back home that you gave it your best shot. Good Luck |
Re: brisbane to perth
I don't get this whole "culture" thing...what the heck is culture anyway?
What is it that is so lacking there for you? What are you craving that you can't find in Brisbane? What is all the red tape that you find such a nightmare? Are you a tradesman or something as I have heard lots of gripes about officialdom from tradies. I dont know what you are after in a city but perhaps you would prefer one of the older cities, ie Sydney? |

Re: brisbane to perth
Good move. Brisbane is a hole, & then some. Perth is far superior & the best city in Australia.
You are doing the right thing. Good luck. |
Re: brisbane to perth
oooh noo!!!
Been to Perth and didn't like it for a place to live (although could see the appeal and Kings Park is lovely). Loved Adelaide and Port Douglas, not fussed about Sydney. Am moving to Brissie next week - never been, so I hope it's not pants....!!!!! I have to say that everyone I know who's gone to Brisbane has loved it, so it comes highly recommended. |

Many thanks Good luck with whatever you decide PS:Removal costs check out Grace Bos. www.gracebrothers.com.au I think Also bear in mind the cost of rentals is going through the roof here and peopel often bidding over asking price just to secure a roof over their heads due to rental shortage. Properties to buy are overpriced and market is starting to cool, so not best time to buy just yet. |
