brisbane northside commute

Hi, can anyone please give me some advice on what the commute into Brisbane from the northern suburbs is like? I'm guessing pretty bad peak hour?
I currently live south-side (so don't know the northern suburbs v well), but OH has had a job offer in Zillmere, so we will have to move. I am working in Dutton Park.
We are thinking about Sandgate or nearby - the train from there for me would be fine, but there will be times when I need to drive. What time does traffic start to get really bad?

Thanks for any advice!!

I worked Southside [Acacia Ridge] last year & stayed with a mate in Morayfield. We used to commute daily leaving Morayfield at 5.10am & arriving Acacia Ridge at 6.15am. The Bruce, Gympie rd & ICB are chokka from 5.30 am.
I live up in the sticks & the volume of traffic at that time was unreal, often bumper to bumper.

Sandgate to Dutton Park would be about 40 mins. I used to do Redcliffe to South Brisbane (so further than your proposed route) and that would take me anywhere between 40 and 50 mins on average.

Thanks both for your replies. Doesn't sound too bad as long as I set off early enough...

I'm in Shorncliffe (next suburb to Sandgate) - I drive to Bowen Hills everyday down Sandgate Rd - I leave at 8:30am and always arrive by 9am. Coming home is much worse, leaving at 5pm, it takes around 45 mins+

Thanks for the reply. That sounds better than the commute I have at the moment, which is great.

I live at Wavell Heights and commute daily to Milton. I choose to start work at 7am - leaving home at 6:30 it takes me 20mins via Shaw Road, ICB and Coro Drive. If I leave home later (8am onwards) the same drive will take 30-40 minutes.

Great, thanks. So if I'm going in early it seems the drive isn't too bad. (Much like all of Brisbane then I suppose!)

Judging by everyone's replies, Sandgate Rd is a better option than the Gateway?

Never ever ever ever go Gateway home, ever!

Going in isn't so bad, but Sandgate Rd is more predictable. The other beauty with Sandgate Rd is that if that is stuffed you have other options. Once you're on the Gateway and it is stuffed, then you too are stuffed as you can't get off it for miles.
