Brisbane news article
Hi came across this article, thought it was very sad but shows how strict the rules are enforced.
Its such a shame for the family I hope something gets worked out for them.

So sad,to tear a family apart like that,couldnt imagine how that poor woman can begin to put the pieces of her life back together

That is so harsh...she must be heartbroken. Surely someone can intervene and see the human side of all this??!

I'm pleased to see the expressions of humanity in this thread and trust it therefore equally would apply in the case of a family of say Croatians who had fled and tried to settle in the UK.

One suspects that's the reason why the PR application got delayed in the first place.
It seems like DIMIA have given the family some options in this situation that a strict reading of the law may not allow (they may have had enough legal grounds to deny PR to the whole family if they had wanted). As PRs the family may have other sponsorship options too, that could rest on the discretion of the Minister.
The bottom line is that I don't think the article tells the full story.
