Thumbs down Brisbane news article

Hi came across this article, thought it was very sad but shows how strict the rules are enforced.

Its such a shame for the family I hope something gets worked out for them.

Heartbreaking...absolutly heartbreaking ......difficult to comment as not sure of whole case history. Seems on surface it's red tape gone mad.

What if the poor lady had no other relations to "be passed among". That is just horrible.

HA! You obviously have not lived under El Presidente Johhny Howards parrochial racist tinpot dictatorship long enough to see that the majority of Aussie do not give a stuff about immigrants. In fact Aussie love to see a "tough" stance on immos, oh how easy they seem to dehumanize these poor people.

Please leave your social conscience at Heathrow if you want to assimilate into the typical Aussie mindset.

I'm pleased to see the expressions of humanity in this thread and trust it therefore equally would apply in the case of a family of say Croatians who had fled and tried to settle in the UK.

It looks to me like they have tried to include the mother as a dependent on their own PR application. Normally that's difficult/impossible to do, as I regularly point out.

One suspects that's the reason why the PR application got delayed in the first place.

It seems like DIMIA have given the family some options in this situation that a strict reading of the law may not allow (they may have had enough legal grounds to deny PR to the whole family if they had wanted). As PRs the family may have other sponsorship options too, that could rest on the discretion of the Minister.

The bottom line is that I don't think the article tells the full story.

As with many UK newspaper articles, there is probably more to the story than appears in print. Newspapers will slant a story to gain maximum sales, whichever country they are in.
